The illness of fame

Obsessions. Fame. But specially obsessions. That's what the movie of Brandon Cronenberg talks about.

Fame is a goal for a lot of people who admire the famous ones who are on the screens, tv and gossip magazines. What does people think? Where do they wanna go? What do they expect? Became part of it, feel the same. Brandon Cronenberg goes to the limits of these kind of thoughts and in his first film, Antiviral, shows to the spectators what could happen in future.

The obsession to feel the same of famous people make they, in the future, wish to get the same illness of their idols. Syd works in a famous clinic that grant this pleasure to their patients. But he jad the same problem. The idea is original, the film os well directed with influence of the director's father and David Lynch. A cold atmosphere, even strange it could said. But maybe this plays a bad effect on the film, the spectator doesn't get involve, only with this hard shots close to the body and the effects of the medical methods and illness.
How knows, maybe thats the goal of Cronenberg but when one leaves the theatre feels a certain feeling that indeference. Good porpose, good intentions, but that's all. Not far away. That's not bad. It's a first movie. Now the people have to judge and the director have to show them if he got more to offer with his own style.
